CARMEN STAGED will surprise even the most ardent of Carmen-lovers. The orchestra of the University College Opera will perform Bizet's Carmen Suites conducted by Charles Peebles. The familiar strains of the music, though, will be countered by the collage of images that visual artist Susanne Dietz has created, entitled 'Love is a Baby dat grows up wild. Director Kitte Wagner of the Nørrebro Teater (Copenhagen) who created 2200 Carmen featuring rap artist Islam B will be be on stage to discuss her experience in adapting Carmen for a modern Danish audience. Jonathan Haswell who captured the Zambello production of Carmen staged at the Royal Opera House for screen will join her to share his approach in framing and filming opera. Jean Andrews, an expert on the opera's many incarnations will add her perspectives to the transformations and translations of Carmen. The discussion will be moderated by Mi Zhou, the producer and convenor of these events.
